Green waste, as opposed to brown carbon-rich waste, is higher in nitrogen content and when not composted or digested properly, breaks down to a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide, which is a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. Complete Landsculpture s green waste is sent to Living Earth, where compost is made from grass clippings, hedge trimmings and tree limbs. This allows us to return nutrients to the soil as compost. Complete Landsculpture is committed to keeping methods of landscape as beneficial to our planet s health as possible. Complete Landsculpture Welcomes Baby Strempek We want to welcome our President Chris and his wife Jackie Strempek s baby boy into the Complete Landsculpture family. Christian Michael Strempek was born on May 25, 2009! Everyone on the Complete Landsculpture team sends the Strempek family best wishes and good luck in raising a baby boy. Tip of the Month Conserve Water with Succulent Plants As we all know, the unforgiving southern heat and water shortages can take quite a toll on our gardens. Watching flowers wilt and leaves singe in this scorching sun can make for a very disappointing landscape, especially in the month of July. How do we combat these summer sorrows? Add dramatic textures and astounding colors to your summer garden with succulent plants. Succulents make the art of creating a water-efficient landscape almost effortless as a low-maintenance, high-impact addition to your garden. Not only can they withstand our unbearable heat and drought conditions but they also grow well in the diverse soil situation found in our region. Succulents grow well in everything from the sandy soil to the clay-based and even the dense rock conditions, making them an easy plant to grow and maintain in the south. *Remember to water late in the evening throughout summer months, as the heat of the day will evaporate the water essential to plant survival. For assistance, please call Complete Landsculpture at (214) 358-5296 or email Complete Landsculpture <mailto:clientservice@completelandsculpture.com> to schedule an appointment with our Specialists. Flower of the Month Tropical Flowers Summer is a prime season for adding dazzling colors and exotic flowers to your landscape. Inserting a bright yellow Esperanza, vibrant clusters of pink Mandevilla Vines, brilliant pink, red, purple or yellows with Tropical Hibiscus, radiant blue Plumbagos, or a mix of tropical colors gleaming from the glossy leaves of Crotons, can make for a more vivacious garden. Esperanzas, native to South and Central America, attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds, while growing best in full sun and well-drained soils. The bright, golden yellow trumpet-shaped flower has several names, including yellow trumpetbush, yellow elder, ginger-thomas, and finally Esperanza, which is Spanish for hope. Mandevilla Vines bloom beautiful pink trumpet-shaped flowers from May to October. This perennial attracts hummingbirds with its deep, dark pink throat and puckered oval leaves, and was named after a British diplomat and gardener, Henry Mandeville. The Tropical Hibiscus is another showstopper with its energetic pink, red, purple or yellow colors growing deeper with age. With its herbal qualities, this plant not only adds color to any situation but has also been proven to improve blood pressure. Though flowers yellow and drop rapidly in sudden temperature changes, they are quickly replaced with new growth. An evergreen shrub like the Plumbago offers intense clusters of blue, five-petaled flowers that add a beautiful touch to borders and beds. Native to South Africa, this ornamental flower is popular in the south due to its love of sunlight and ability to flourish with little watering once established. Finally, add colorful glossy foliage to gardens with the broad leaves of Crotons, ranging in colors of red, orange, yellow and green per leaf. Leaf colors are best developed when planted in shifting sun and create a uniformed look, most attractive during pruning season. Tropical plants add variety and color to your summer gardens. Ask your Complete Landsculpture representative today about making your landscape reflect the beautiful colors of summer. Project of the Month Dallas Baptist University Design Dallas Baptist University (DBU) has quite a history in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, with an ever-changing approach to drawing students and the community to its beautiful 293-acre campus. The Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel is an essential piece of the campus map, but land behind the church has posed challenges in using that space to the university s advantage. With an impossible slope running right up to the Swan Lake edge and an undefined area surrounding the back of the church, options were limited. The Chapel s strong architecture is a dominant feature on campus, serving as an iconic symbol of the University. Complete Landsculpture was challenged with defining the natural beauty of this slope, remaining consistent with current style and appearance, yet designing a functional space without overusing large retaining structures. As people often associate the campus with the Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel, the landscape needs to enhance the faade as well as help enforce this vision while not taking anything away. DBU and Complete Landsculpture have three objectives to meet with the Chapel project: enhance the immediate perimeter of the church, create a public space for weddings and large gatherings, and create a smaller, more intimate, space for study and reflection. The whole Complete Landsculpture team agrees with our lead Landscape Architect, Robert Knaak, when he says, We are excited about the opportunity to be involved in such an important project for the University; we realize this structure will stand the test of time and become the epicenter of the campus. See our video animation of this project. <http://CompleteLandsculpture.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d4792b1d 83a0e830cb727390e&id=d07fc247b1&e=9d0a940e6b> Trinity Church - Legacy Park (continued from June Volume I, Issue 2) As the design project featured in June s newsletter, the Trinity Church project has since been completed.
